Mammals and
the Lake Ontario Shoreline

There are a variety of mammals that may use your shoreline. The variety you attract all depends on what kind of habitat you have to offer.

  White-tailed deer

Deer and rabbits are attracted to trees and saplings near the forest edge.

  Gray Squirrel

Squirrels and chipmunks need nut trees, such as oaks and hickory, and old trees with cavities for shelter and nesting.

Muskrats and beaver are attracted to wetlands. Wetlands provide them with abundant food and they build their homes among the vegetation.
